It won’t take too long for the walls to ignite while charging your electric car. Don’t be misled by the advertising that for example says 240 volts and 80 amps. That’s a phenominal 19,200 watts of power. That’s about 26 horsepower of electricity. So first of all be safe when charging your electric car. It’s not like plugging in the vacumn cleaner. Also, the electricity that comes into the charger has to be transported over the inefficient wires from the generating station and the generating station is maybe 35% efficient and is most likely using oil fired boilers to create the steam to turn the electric generator to make the electricity. So.. Despite the misleading ideas the electric cars are better than gasoline or propane powered cars, they are not. Electric cars have very big and very heavy batteries and very heavy elecrtic motors. All that makes them less and less efficient. Ideas to the contrary are simply wrong.

An electric toaster in the kitchen uses about 800 watts so a charger is like having 24 toasters going all at once on your wall. Of course the charger doesn’t heat up like a toaster but it’s using electricity just like the 24 toasters are using electicity. And it’s doing it all at once while hanging there on your garage wall. That’s amassive amount of electricity. A by-product of charging is heat. Both at the charger and at the battery. The heat is from wasted electricity. The charger is probably about 35% efficient and the battery is about 35% efficient so together it means that only about 12% of the electricity goes into power in the battery. When the car moves it’s also about 35% efficient so the 12% is reduced yet again to 35% of the input at that point which reduces all of the charging electricity to about 4% of the original 19,200 watts of charging electricity.  There may be worse ways or getting around but an electric vehicle in terms of energy use is the worst. They may be quiet and seemingly powerful and fun ways to travel around but in terms of wasting energy they are the best way to waste energy travelling around that’s ever been invented. A horse and buggy may be a better investment in terms of saving the environment.
