Robert “Bob” Hoopes’ pleaded guilty to attempting to launder money, accepting a bribe and extorting business owners while he was a public official in what has become an ongoing federal corruption probe that also ensnared a former district judge, state deputy constable and a township solicitor, among others.

Doylestown attorney Bob Hoopes, 71, pleaded guilty in Philadelphia’s U.S. District Court on Wednesday and he’s to be sentenced Dec. 17.
Bob is one of three former public officials accused of laundering $400,000 total in three groups of cash that handed over by federal agents. the agents accused Bob of accepting bribes from business owners in an alleged pay-to-play scheme and conspiring to fix a traffic ticket for an undercover agent that was before Waltman’s court while Bob was the township manager.

Hoopes previously worked as a Lower Southampton police officer from 1969 to 1988 before retiring on disability. He returned to law school to become an attorney practicing civil and criminal law in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. How did this happen to him?
