Heinz “Henry” Alfred Kissinger’s analytical skills are unsurpassed, probably beyond the abilities of other humans. In the book: “Years of Upheaval”, he clearly covers not only the Vietnam years but also the Watergate years with so much clarity that the guilt and innocence of various actors is beyond doubt. The North Vietnamese are particularly brutal. And the Domino Theory operated just as Kissinger said it would.

A free, capitalist South Vietnam is no more. It’s controlled by the communists as is Laos and Cambodia. All communist thanks in large part to the American Left who demonstrated and forced America to leave South Vietnam but Henry Kissinger is not to blame for any of that. People like Jane Fonda, boxer Muhammad Ali who resisted being drafted during the Vietnam War. Ali, then heavyweight champion of the world, declared himself a “conscientious objector,” and refused to fight for America as did Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), Norman Mailer, MLK, Joan Baez, The Chicago Seven, Pete Seegar, Abe Hoffman, Tom Hayden and tens of thousands more who became draft dodgers and went to Canada to avoid fighting. Many were fierce Communists who hated America.
Kissinger’s brilliance is illuminated in “Years of Upheaval”. It’s a not to be missed date with America History by a storied professor. Miss it and miss part of history. Read it with wonder and awe at this awesome man.
