The United States is reportedly preparing for potential military action in Cuba.
Cuba currently operates as a single-party authoritarian socialist state, which western governments and international human rights organizations widely characterize as a dictatorship, while the Cuban government defends its system as a participatory socialist democracy.
According to CBS News, an internal Army message says the U.S. Army Reserve is examining what resources it can provide to the military’s Southern Command over the next four months.
It’s a secret because it hasn’t been announced but Cuba may be next after Venezuela where U.S. special forces captured Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro in Caracas in January of this year. Days before Trump’s recent U.N. address, the administration imposed fresh sanctions on Cuban officials and entities, including military-linked companies tied to the island’s nickel industry.
Trump had already made his ambitions toward Cuba clear in March, telling reporters in the Oval Office that he believed he would have “the honor of taking Cuba.”
