There are about 30 million visitors each year to Venice which includes arrivals of both day-trippers and overnight guests according to city officials. Venetians are mad because they crowd the city instead of being delighted that visitors come and taking advantage of them. No need to overcharge or tax the visitors who bring money and use the services of Venice. Why don’t the Venetians take advantage of a wonderful opportunity to entice the visitors who represent 30 million business opportunities each year. Instead of raging at the visitors, sell them something. Capitalism can make the Venetians rich beyond measure so instead of raging against them, welcome them and invite them back. Tell then to bring along their friends a relatives. Venice has about 250,000 full time residents. If each tourist represented $100 of income per day, that’s $1 trillion dollars a year that could provide $9 billion dollars per year to each resident which represents a fantastic opportunity for each man, woman and child of Venice. It is shear ignorance that prevents Venetians from grasping that single fact about tourists.  While so many places around the world know this and welcome visitors, the Venetians just do not.

Too bad for them! And too bad to Venice, Italy and Europe that they mis-understand the value of tourists.
