A college campus is a place to protest. It doesn’t mean the college or some of the students there are protesting. Columbia University in Manhattan is a scene for protests against Jews. Columbia is not against Jews. But the protests at Columbia make it seem that Columbia supports Hamas and Hezbollah against Israel and against Jews. that’s not the case. In fact it is the opposite of the case because most Columbia students have the common sense to understand that Israel is neither and enemy of America nor an attacker of Islam. Instead, Israel was a victim of radical islamists on Oct 7 just as America was a victim on of radical Islamists on 9/11… Remember this: an ideology is an abstraction. It takes the actions of individuals to attack other individuals. The attackers on 9/11 were lots of things including believers of Islam but Islam is a doctrine. Doctrines are abstactions. Attackers however aren’t abstractions. Attacks are real. Attacks are abstractions. Attackers however are real. They can use any reason they chose to articulate but the reasons do not exist in reality. That’s why it’s proper to blame, prosecute and punish evil-doers but it’s both wrong and impossible to punish an abstraction. Make sure you know the difference before praising or blaming people for actions.
