Even though both Rand and Chambers opposed Communism, they became mortal enemies. because Chambers wrote a terrible essay; “Big Sister Is Watching You” that tried but failed to stop Ayn Rand. Chambers was probably interested in condemning Rand because he replaced Communism with Christianity but Rand who was born in Russia and knowingly defected to America was a realist so she couldn’t be a Christian. Born of Jewish parents, Rand was not at all religious and that to Chambers was a fatal error. It made her Chambers enemy even though both opposed Communism. Chambers fully and completely accepted Communism and became an important organizer for Communism. Chambers joined the Communist GPU spy ring but he had a change of heart and overthrew his acceptance of Communism. Unfortunately he replaced Communism with Christianity. Rand never accepted Communism in the first place. She saw it’s errors as a young girl in Russia. Chambers kniowingly became a Communist and praised it’s virtues and he utterly failed to recognize the errors of Communism because he failed to reject it’s authoritarianism. Chambers accepted the authoritarianism of Communism and the authoritarianism of Christianity. Rand was never a Communist but Chambers was. Rand rejected Communism where Chambers fully, completely and throughly accepted Communism and simply replaced the dogmas of Communism with the dogmas of Christianity. Rand had a massive headstart compared to Chmabers when she spotted the errors of Communism and so never accepted them. Rand understood the basis of a system of philosophy determines it’s direction. Chambers accepted Mysticism andconsequently he accepted both Communism then replaced it with Christianity.

Rand simply used Existence as the basis of her system of Philosophy. Chambers never revealed his philosophy although Christianity which he accepted and promoted in his book Witness has the Supernatural as it’s basis and irrationality as it’s epistemology. Whether the Supernatural is used as the basis of a system of philosphy or Mysticism or anything other than Existence itself is used as the Metaphysical starting point it determines the most basic differences of a person’s belief system. Chambers failed or just didn’t get to the fundamentals of philosophy that underwrote his belief system. It’s a pity Chambers got that part of big belief system wrong because he basically seems to have honestly and sincerely tried mightily to get things right. The world is better of having had Chambers and much better off having Rand.
