Dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki during a declared war were massively immoral acts but the greatest immoral act ever was the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor by Japan when there was no declared war so Hiroshima and Nagasaki while immoral were competely justified. Moral values are absloute so using atomic bombs on primarily civilian targets was immoral. There were other ways to end World War II but they weren’t used. The hope is nuclear weapons will never be used but of course we wouldn’t bet on it. The atomic bomb “Little Boy” was an enriched uranium gun-type fission weapon that was dropped on Hiroshima and “Fat Man” was a plutonium implosion-type nuclear weapon was dropped on Nagasaki. Up to 126,000 were killed at Hiroshima and up to 80,000 were killed at Nagasaki, a total of up to 206,000 people total. By way of comparison, the fire bombing of Tokyo by 325 U.S. bombers killed up to 130,000 people.

The flight from Tinian Island to  Hiroshima is 2,526 km or 1,570 miles and it took the Enola Gay B-29 about 6 hours and one minute to make the flight, drop “Little Boy” and another 6 hours and one minute to return, a total time of 12 hours and two minutes according to an interview with Colonel Paul Warfield Tibbets Jr. to make the round trip from and back to Tinian Island.
