No need to wear a mask in your car when alone but going to a department store, like WalMart where there are loads of people breathing out a mask can help slow down the transmission of disease. The air in an aircraft is exhausted into the atmosphere and fresh air taken in so an aircraft passenger cabin is much, much cleaner than the air in a WalMart. While the virus is much smaller than the openings in masks it doesn’t travel in a straight line so it can become trapped in the mask when breathing in and out.
