In part the Eagles will need the efforts of some of the players who missed the Falcon’s game that the birds lost. DeSean Jackson may be a hinge player without whom the Eagles will have a harder time.

In its 24-20 loss to the Falcons, the Eagles lost Alshon Jeffery,(calf), DeSean Jackson,(groin), Dallas Goedert, (calf), Corey Clement (shoulder) and Tim Jernigan (foot) to injuries. Quarterback Carson Wentz was evaluated for a brain injury, (concussion), but returned to the game after heading to the blue tent for a series.

Of all of the players on the Eagles, Jackson is the most explosive, dynamic and dangerous to the opposition. He and quarterback Carson Wentz have trememdous chemistry. Tim Jernigan, who broke his foot, was already filling in for Malik Jackson on the defensive line. His injury comes one week after Malik Jackson was placed on injured reserve with a season-ending foot injury. Six injuries show a lack of proper conditioning. Jackson’s groin pull, an injury which could be mild or moderate is definately not a muscle tear which would require surgery and put him out for the season. Heat and relaxation until the muscle is ready to play could take up to six weeks to heal. Pederson is definately a player guy so he won’t let Jackson play until the coach is convinced beyond all doubt that Jackson is ready.  The problem is Jackson is an extreme competitor who will push his own limits who may self-medicate with pain killers which might be worse for him in the long season ahead. Here’s hoping the right balance of activities will happen so Jackson is able to help himself and the Eagles get back in the win column.

The team  needs to step up their game to become a threat again. In the meantime expect the Lions to take maximum advantage of any weakness in the Eagles and jump on any holes in the lineup. The Lions just signed 26 year old free agent QB Jeff Driskel to backup starter QB Matt Stafford who is 6’3″, 220 lb’s.  In 2017, Strafford signed a 5 year $135-million contract extension with the Lions, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history at the time. Currently Carson Wentz is paid $32 million.

Jeff Driskel is a bigger guy than Strafford. He’6’4″, 233 lb’s. He makes them a better team but it takes more than a QB to beat the Eagles. Fletcher Cox of the Eagles loves to hit the QB and he’s one of the best to do that. Driskel may see some action if Fletcher gets to Stafford too often.

These two teams are full of great athletes so even though the Eagles are heavily favored, the Lions have enough talent to win. That’s not happening. .
