His life spanned 68 years and about three months. That’s a fair run but life wasn’t exactly fair to Charles. A cervical vertebrae in his neck was broken and the spinal cord was injured on a July day in 1972 at age 22 when he dove into a swimming pool. After 14 months in hospital Charles needed a wheelchair. Nevertheless, he got married, had a son and moved into our history books as one great America, one great man, one American legacy.
Charles had appeared on the Sean Hannity show several times but Hannity had no idea Charles was paralyzed from the neck down. To Charles, being paralyzed sis not define his life. He chose what his life was to become and he did an excellent job. We admired him and will miss him.
