Lawrence Weinstein was a friend of mine who went off the rails and committed a series of felonious sexual crimes. Not rape but severely distorted sexual fantasies that he acted out using a girlfriend as an accomplice. It was simply, a surprise. Larry has lived in Northampton township for many years. Active in the Northampton Republican party as a committeeman, elected to be a township supervisor and working at the polls twice a year for a long time, Larry also attended Tea Party meetings even though he was a Republican.
Nothing in his day-to-day behavior indicated he had a psychological crisis. He and his girlfriend plotted and schemed, according to the news reports and victimised several woman after getting them drunk by spiking their drinks until they passed out.
Out hearts go out for the victims. Larry’s behavior is sick, sadistic and disgusting. He will no doubt be going thru deep therapy to try to correct his aberrational mentation. This is serious mental misdirection. This is very, very abnormal.
A case of a mental breakdown, no doubt. No excuses. None are possible. The fate of the victims is unknowable. They were purposely, inhumanely drugged until they passed out. That’s a dangerous state to be in. What kind of mentally disturbed people, (Weinstein had an accomplice), would do that to another human being?
What about the broken trust with so many people who had no idea that Weinstein and Drucker, his girlfriend, –he was divorced from his first wife, were capable of such deviant behaviors. . What about the deception, the brazen deceit of so many friends, co-workers, and especially family and their children?
There’s no way to undo this. No known way that will wipe the record away. How to repair the psychological nausea to the perps, the victims and the acquaintances. No way to process this because it is so unusual.
This is about criminal sexual behavior. There’s no name for this. Perhaps Paraphilia in which sexual gratification is derived from activities or fantasies that are generally regarded as atypical or deviant but in this case the behavior is criminal. Probably criminal psychologists who deal with people with paraphilia have some understanding of what happens to the psyche of a criminal paraphiliac. Voyeurism seems to be another element here in addition to the sexual deviance.
The sex drive is the strongest urge of adults. Coupled with deviance and the ability to ignore normal sexual control and a dark heart, there is probably no limit to the fantasies of some people and no outward signs an individual is in possession of such abnormal behavior while keeping up appearances at all other times. This is so sick. This will take a lot of time and thought to process and to realize that we would wish it didn’t happen.
But it did. It must be dealt with. There’s no getting away from this. There was no warning.
Coming on top of the grand jury presentments about the abuses of certain Catholic priests, it’s clear that there is a lot we don’t know about some people.
