Washington never had to deal with the terrorists, the illegal immigrants, the very hostile Left-wing media, the FBI and the CIA who have worked to undermine President Trump,  or the black people as Trump has to. Plus there was no internet in Washington’s time so Washington had much more time to react, a luxury that Trump doesn’t have.

“The EU is very difficult,” Trump said, adding that “both of my parents were born in EU sectors.”

“I love those countries,” he explained. “I respect the leaders of those countries. But, in a trade sense, they’ve really taken advantage of us and many of those countries are in NATO and they weren’t paying their bills.”The EU leaders are all looking left while Trump is looking right. They don’t get Trump. Trump gets America and Americans. Europe doesn’t. The EU men are wearing blue or grey ties. President Trump’s tie is Red. He stands out because he’s a stand alone, American, stand out guy.

Europeans see Trump as an aberration, whose policies are not just out of touch with their own priorities and values, but also with those of the majority of Americans. They feel strengthened by US foreign policy elites, who for decades have made policies without much public input or scrutiny. A good example is Robert Kagan, who in a series of recent columns in the Washington Post has decried the decline of the “liberal world order”. As liberals enthusiastically retweet his columns, they should remember that Kagan was one of the prominent neoconservatives behind the foreign policy of George W Bush’s administration, which for eight years ignored or undermined that same liberal world order in support of another American First ideology.

With Trump’s withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal, the already rocky relationship between the United States and its European allies has become even more tenuous. For many Europeans, Trump’s decision to pull the United States out of the Iran accord crystallizes what they dislike about his approach to world affairs: Instead of multilateralism, it’s America First. No more help for the EU from Uncle Sucker.

Trump-era European anxieties are driven less by fears of unchecked American power, and more by a sense that the United States is stepping back from the world order it helped design.

Trump is certainly a different political leader and US president. His style is unique, but he mainly says out loud, and more clearly, what many Americans, including political elites, think in private. “America First” has always been the motto of US foreign policy, even if previous presidents believed this was better achieved through a (US-dominated) liberal world order. The sooner Europeans come to terms with that, and start planning for a future on their own, the better.

In the latest poll, Trump is higher than Obama who was the darling of the media and Trump is doing it without the help of the mainstream Republicans, not to mention the hatred from the Left in America.
