Was America actually settled by white people? Yes and No. It’s agreed that Europeans settled America in the beginning but before it was called  America. Columbus was from Southern Europe where people are swarthier than the people of Northern Europe but the change from the Southern swarthy to Northern less swarthy still yields conventional white people. Arguments about the whiteness of Egyptians often depend on context as does the whiteness or darkness of Arabs compared to say Norwegians or people from Sweden or Denmark but the idea of white people and the original settlers of what came to be referred to as America is clear. They are connected. No other race is credited with the settlement as noted in Federalist #2: ” Providence has been pleased to give this one connected country to one united people–a people descended from the same ancestors, speaking the same language, professing the same religion, attached to the same principles of government, very similar in their manners and customs, and who, by their joint counsels, arms, and efforts, fighting side by side throughout a long and bloody war, have nobly established general liberty and independence.

“This country and this people seem to have been made for each other, and it appears as if it was the design of Providence, that an inheritance so proper and convenient for a band of brethren, united to each other by the strongest ties, should never be split into a number of unsocial, jealous, and alien sovereignties.”

But split it has been and the splitting continues even though history can identify the changes and their rates.
