AR-15 Is Not A Military Rifle Nor a Machine Gun Or Even A Machine Pistol Like The Uzi.

Technically speaking, the military doesn’t use AR-15’s. An AR-15 is a civilian rifle and fires only one shot per trigger squeeze. AR doesn’t stand for “Automatic Rifle”, AR stands for Armalite Rifle. Armalite was the company that first brought the original AR-15 to production.

Anyways, back to the topic at hand. The US military uses or has used machine guns which fire shots as long as the trigger is pulled back. The military uses the M16, the M16A1, the M16A2, the M16A3, the M16A4, and currently is using the M4 which is a smaller, shorter, lighter version of the M16 series. With the exception of the M16A2, those firearms had three settings. Safe, Select Fire (or Single Shot), and Full Automatic. The M16A2 had three settings as well. They were Safe, Select Fire (or Single Shot), and 3 round burst.
