Will it settle the dispute about NFL players protesting treatment of black skinned people or will it further inflame the debate?
Both.
This is a clear black-white race-based issue. The black people who are offended by the Star Spangled Banner will stay offended. The people offended by the offensive kneelers will be happy to hear someone sing a protest song about why the kneelers got it wrong. There’s no way to end the kneeling and no reason to keep it up. It’s a race thing and race things don’t go away. The Civil War didn’t stop racism.
Rodney King asked “Can’t we all just get along”. Yes, we can but some people don’t want to. Like the kneelers they want to fight or at least to show they’re not happy. Neither are the fans. One behind-the-scenes TV staffer at another stadium told Sporting News that camera operators were ordered to avoid crowd shots in case they showed fans counterprotesting the protests.
One answer is happening when the fans boo the kneelers. Another is the TV cameras won’t show the singing of the anthem. So for now it’s a standoff. The kneelers won’t stand and the standers won’t kneel. The fans are mad at the kneelers and Neal McCoy has a hot potato in his hand. He best not walk around without protection.
