Finally, six days before he loses control of the U.S. Military Obama sends 3,500 American troops and loads of equipment into the town of Zagan in Eastern Poland to try to stop Putin’s land grabs in Crimea, South Ossetia, Georgia and Eastern Ukraine and to make Russia think about threats to the Baltic Republics of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. /span>
He’ll most likely recall many un-needed America troops from around the world. America has been protecting many nations for free. Trump is not about free. He believes in paying for what you get and getting paid for what you do. NATO is a great example of America paying through the nose and sending American’s to protect Europe when the Europeans are more than capable of protecting themselves.
It’s about time Obama did this but he’s only doing it to irk President Trump who will demand payment to cover the cost of the intervention.
America has nearly 800 military bases in more than 70 countries and territories abroad but we get noting for our efforts. Britain, France and Russia, by contrast, have about 30 foreign bases combined.
Maintaining bases and troops overseas cost $85 to $100 billion in fiscal year 2014; the total with bases and troops in warzones is $160 to $200 billion. Why? Those are not our wars. Those wars don’t directly benefit American.
Russia’s GDP is about $3.8 trillion. America’s is about five times bigger at $18 trillion. Putin is in charge of an economically small country with a large military force that he just sent into Syria and the Middle East.
Obama was no match for Putin. Trump is and Putin knows it.
