Past wonderful experience with a Shun 711 steak induced the purchase of a 4 piece set of Senken Tsunami steak knives.. WOW!.. These knives slice thru Filet Mignon so easy it makes the steak seem more tender than it really is. The Shun was a startling introduction to the world of really great steak knives. You can spend $15 to $200 for a single steak knife. How do you know you have the best possible steak knife? Simple. It cuts Filet Mignon and makes you feel like a surgeon. It there one best steak knife? My thought is NO. There are a load of really great steak knives. They all do a fantastic job of slicing through Filet Mignon; New York Strip or pork chops. My thought is you cannot go wrong or make a mistake by getting really great steak knives. Blades and handles come in a dizzying array of materials and colors at prices that go from $15 and up. If you are inclined to really enjoy the experience of easily slicing through things you cannot go wrong with the better steak knives. The Shun 711 was bought decades ago and never disappointed me. It was a bit expensive at the time but no regrets. A recent purchase of 4 Senken Tsunami steak knives was a great move but there are so many great looking steak knives with many different solutions for blade type, material and handles that it’s impossible for me to recommend one brand over another. Some people want a blade with teeth while others want a straight edge. Which one is better? No answer. Try the different styles and make choice. Then head to the nearest steak serving restaurant and have at it. A great knife makes the experience even better. At this point I have to stop looking even though it’s a load of fun. We just returned from Circa 1898 and having great, really sharp knives made a good experience even better but I repeat myself. .
