The idea that race x is 10% of the population so the percentage of x employees must equal 10% or the company is discriminating against x’s is an incorrect idea about discrimination. Some races do better in school and other races do better in sports so mandating that the percentage of x’s in math must equal the percentage of x’s in the population is just as wrong as mandating the percent of NFL players who must equal the percentage of x’s in the population. Talent does not follow diversity rules. Brain surgeons require different skills than football players. Everyone knows that. Mandating that the percent of brain surgeons who are of race x must equal the percentage race x in the population will result is failed brain operations just as mandating the percent of quarterbacks must equal the percent of race x in the population will result in hiring some quarterbacks who are just not as good as others. Hopefully the wrong ideas about diversity will not be followed just as wrong ideas about race should not be followed either but that’s not what has been going on.
