A button to turn on the radio will last the lifetime of the car but the CUE Screen supplied by Cadillac won’t last thru a cold winter. What appears to be a 4 inch by 7 inch clear piece of glass is a TV screen When it de-laminates cracks appear like spider webs over the screen. The screen is far too fussy to be used in an automobile. While it’s a great advance to be able to use a touch screen instead of having buttons, knobs, dials and levers to push, pull, twist and move to set or activate certain functions, a car bounces and impacts potholes and cracks in the roadway which send shocks into the various components. A car is also left closed up in the hot sun and left overnight in below freezing weather so everything on or in a car needs to be robust. The CUE screen is not ready for prime time, or, at the very least it is far too delicate to be designed into a Cadillac SUV. In addition, it is a very, very labor intensive job to replace the defective CUE screen.

…which is attached to the car by about 50 screws, bolts, pins, electrical connectors and tape. A small, flat, ribbon connector has about 41 connections that terminate in a small, flat, plastic tab that needs to be inserted into a connector with special tweezers that are far beyond the capabilities of an experienced mechanic to perform. Removing the center console also requires special tools and techniques that are not at all obvious even to a jeweler, surgeon, engineer mechanic.
