Her crimes are deception and theft. She deceived us by stealing the works of many other people, 90 or more at last count and it is good an proper that she is no longer the president of a so-called estemeed institution but Harvard is involved in the thefts. That the review boards that passed her plagiarized works and the individuals on those boards must also be held to account because we do not want this kind of behavior to persist. Gay has not been fired from Harvard yet she stands athwart of their founding principles. She does not belong in academia yet she must not depart alone. Gay is both a phenomenom and common. Harvard can no longer support her yet the institution does. That’s intolerable. That’s unjust. That’s a combined moral failure of Claudine Gay and Harvard. Indeed all of higher education is in the box and the sides are shortening… Good. The moral universe is large but not indefinate. Crime must be punished both so the criminal comes to grasp their failure and so potential criminals are thwarted. Both must be done.
