America needs Coal, Oil, Natural Gas and Wood too but America already has quite a lot of coal, wood and natural gas. America needs even more to keep on living as it has so three cheers for fossil fuels!
Coal is just a rock. Coal is very easy to distribute and does not require a special place to store it. Coal is worthless in the ground but when it’s mined and used to run an electric generating plant it has value. Coal is valuable because it is useful but it is only useful when it is burned. It’s a black rock until it’s burned, then it becomes a fuel that makes electricity or steam and that’s when it becomes valuable. That’s just what Africa needs.
Coal provides 30% of global primary energy. It is used to generate 41% of global electricity. It is also used to produce 68% of the world’s steel and is a key source of energy in energy-intensive industries, such as aluminum and cement production without which life would be impossible for millions. Coal is what Africa needs and Africa needs even more coal.
South Africa has enormous amounts of coal but no oil so South Africa makes car fuel from coal. It would be better for South Africa to sell the coal and buy oil but then South Africa would be dependent upon other nations and their politics which in many cases are completely against South Africa.
