Two years ago Hunter Ray Yeagle was murdered in Medellin, Colombia. My outrage over his murder lives on. Because I am his grandfather his life will be a part of mine forever.
Some people have the idea that they should pray that the murderer gets help. That outrages me even more. If they want to pray, pray for something that makes sense like catching and punishing the killer. That’s why we have the idea of justice. Sure we also have mercy but it’s outrageous to accept the idea that a killer deserves mercy. My grandson is dead. I have no interest in hearing about prayers for mercy for the guilty and anyone who even thinks that is crazy. Mercy might be to not beat the killer to a pulp but in no way can mercy balance any part of murder. This murder hurt an entire family. The grief is simply uncalculatable. The family has been devestated. The devestation will contiune into future with no end in sight. Sorrow may have limits but it’s difficult to know them when a family member gone. Perhaps the impossible can happen, that the grief will stop but being realistic means learning to live with the grief. Anyone who want’s to pray for mercy will have to accept how outrageous that is to a greiving grandfather.
