Stamps are like money but they can only be used once so government has to make them hard to counterfeit. That’s why stamps are so intricate and at the same time so beautiful.
Ayn Rand collected stamps and so did I but while Ayn Rand collected stamps all of her life and had a vast, expensive collection, I sort of stopped when I was a teenager.
Years later while jumping in the surf at Wildwood with a younger cousin, Mark, Mark said: “thanks for the stamp collection”. I was shocked. I never gave it to him but I moved out of my childhood home when I got married and since we had a very small apartment I left a few of my valuables behind, including my stamp collection. My mom just gave it to my cousin. I was mad and hurt but didn’t let on to my cousin that I never intended to give away my stamp collection.
Fast foreward and I found out about stamp collections for sale on Ebay so I’ve been bidding on a few of them. Here’s hoping I win one.
Oh,… Yeah… Forbes wrote that stamps are not a good investment and most collections are valued so low that people don’t even break even on them.
