The more people available to do a job the lower their pay so more immigrants keeps the cost of labor down. Usually that’s a good thing but the cost of welfare goes up which is a bad thing. Also inflation increases when welfare increases because the source of the welfar money is ink and paper instead of silver and gold. The value of a house doesn’t increase but the cost of it does when inflation increases. So more immigrants increases the cost of a house but a low cost worker cannot afford to buy a house so crowding more people into a small house increases. Generally more immigrants is a good thing but coupled to a welfare system it becomes a bad thing. The key is to provide for more skilled immigrants but skilled immigrants live in places that already are nice to live in so they stay put instead of immigrating. That’s why immigration from Europe is low while immigration from South America remains high. So does the cost of the welfare for low-skilled or no-skilled immigrants. They also favor pick-up trucks which have much higher roll-over rates and higher fatalities.
