If you exhale into a mask then inhale without removing the mask the virus you exhaled will be inhaled. Any virus caught in the mask will be added to the virus exhaled into the mask so the next inhale will inhale both the previously exhaled and trapped virus along with the recently exhaled virus. A second exhale will add more virus to the mask and a second inhale with the mask in place will inhale both the virus from the first exhale and the second exhale. The cycle will continue with the net result that the mask will continue to increase the amount of inhaled virus.
When the mask is removed some virus will be transferred to the fingers which can spread to other surfaces thus making it easier for additional people to be infected.
The lesson is: Be very careful when using a mask because you can increase your chances of getting the virus if you don’t use the mask correctly. Unfortunately, masks don’t come with any of the above information so you are on your own.
