Many decades ago a family member bought a rock quarry in Pennsylvania thinking that supplying stone to road builders would be a good business. He got it wrong as he came to find that bribes and corruption were the backbone of supplying stone to the state. Corruption is downstream from business. A business must be in existence before it can be corrupted and corruption is the favored reason Pennsylvania Route 309 is in such poor condition with cracks across the roadway so a constant “bump…. bump…. bump” can be heard as the tires roll over the cracked road. The cracks are very visible. The sound of the four tires crossing them, the “bump… bump… bump” and the constant feeling as the vehicle goes over and over the cracks all serve as a constant reminder that corruption is downstream from business and a constant factor as one travels along the cracks of Route 309. Two local politicians observed that and recently explained that is will be some time before the road is repaired thus validating that politics is downstream from business too.
