“Rock” married our daughter Terree. He was a very handsome man when he married into our loving family but they divorced. Rock was a nice guy. Sadly, at age 65, Rock died on Thursday, July 26, 2024. Unfortunately his widow sent a very un-Catholic message via an in-person messenger to specifically demand we not attend his funeral viewing or Catholic Mass at Saint Bede’s but she in unable to change the facts of Rock’s life. What was she afraid of? What causes such smallness in a person? Jealousy? Anger? Revenge? A misplaced sense of outrage over some imagined slight that physically never happened? The answer is elusive, at least for the moment and in time a change of mind may prevail over the initial attitude during a very sensitive, very emotional time. Maryanne, his second wife was 13 years younbger than Rock and perhaps a few more years will get her to a more mature state of mind. People handle death differently and even though the grieving process; shock, denial, bargaining and acceptance is well known, individuals who are deeply affected need time to recover from the death of a loved one. Some never recover. Some actually get worse. Some literally lose their right minds and retreat into a fantasy world where they are unable to comprehend reality. Others simply want revenge so they lash out at convenient, innocent targets. So.. To those who are greiving it may simply be best to let time pass. *************
William J. Rockenbach Sr., lovingly known as “Bill Rock”, of Holland, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on July 26, 2024. He was 65 years old.
William is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Maryann Rockenbach (nee Perrey), his four adoring children: William Jr., Joseph, Daniel, and Natalie, and brothers Matthew and James. Bill is predeceased by his parents, William and Eileen Rockenbach, and his sisters, Maureen and Eileen.
Bill attended Assumption BVM Grade School and was a graduate of Archbishop Wood High School. Bill continued his education at Penn State University where he enjoyed academic and baseball success. Bill’s career spanned many decades in the automobile industry, including both retail and advertising. Bill found success within all aspects of his professional career and was the recipient of countless awards and praises, earning him respect throughout the industry. In 2000, Bill was given the opportunity to help build Cars.com and be more involved with his growing family. He often referred to this career change as “the best decision of my life”, allowing him to be constantly present with his children. Bill was a devoted husband and loving father, his wife and kids were his sole purpose. Bill had an everlasting love for music, and he cherished relaxing by the pool, going on family vacations in the Outer Banks, and being on a ball field. Bill’s time was dedicated to practices, games, and the rides to and from, which he often said was the best time to teach meaningful lessons to his children. A faithful parishioner and loyal servant to God, Bill exemplified everything a man should be.
