Over at The Unz Review there’s a pseudo-author, one Jonas E. Alexis who is nothing if not a Christian apologist. He believes the revolution in science was due to Christianity. If anything the opposite is true: Christianity held back the Scientific Revolution for a long time because Christianity is anti-science. It supposes for example that the entire universe originated and that leads them to their real purpose, the attribution of all creation to their God. The premise that everything had to be created leads to the conundrum of who created God? If no one created God then everything doesn’t need a creator. Or the heresy that there is no God removes the conundrum. Back to the premise that the church is the real villain here, the Catholic Church, for example burned Bruno at the stake because he had a different and correct explanation for the beginning of the earth and subjected Galileo to infinite house arrest because he showed that the earth moves around the sun while the church held fast to the proposition that the sun moved and the earth stood still but despite the preposterous position of the Catholic Church, the truth about the physical universe got thru….
**********
Giordano Bruno was burned at the stake on February 17, 1600, in Rome’s Campo de’ Fiori by the Pope and the cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church for his beliefs.
He was being convicted of heresy by the Roman Inquisition. Bruno was sentenced to death merely for his belief’s that contradicted the incorrect core Catholic doctrines, including the Trinity, the divinity of Christ, the virginity of Mary, and trans-substantiation, as well as for promoting pantheism and metempsychosis (the belief in the reincarnation of the soul). Although he is often remembered as a martyr for science due to his support of the Copernican heliocentric model and his idea of an infinite universe with countless inhabited worlds, modern historians emphasize that his execution was primarily due to his theological and metaphysical heresies, not his scientific belief. In short, he was executed for his beliefs. A hideous crime by the Catholic Church meaning, we suppose, by the Pope and the Cardinals who are the true villain’s here..
Consider, for example, this: “It was fundamentally the synthesis of Greek philosophy with Scripture—understood as divine revelation—that laid the intellectual foundations for the Scientific Revolution. It is therefore not coincidental that the scientists and natural philosophers of this period were overwhelmingly theists, many of whom were committed Christians.”….
Revelation means Dreams!!!
And that is how Christians and other old believers accept God as the creator of everything… a rather silly notion when one thinks about it. The origin of the universe could not be due to a God, no matter how huge because the premise that the universe was brought into existence by a God who always existed becomes irrational when one realizes that if everything needed to be created then by that premise God too had to be created. The plain fact is we do not have an answer to the question about the beginning of existence. Asking about the beginning of something that always was is irrational. One could easily ask about the beginning of nothing as though nothing is really something. One can either start with existence or propose something as a cause for existence which is asking for something that is not in existence or something that doesn’t exist as a cause for something that does. The present state of human knowledge is: the beginning of everything is unknown. Christianity is wrong to attribute existence to God and Rand is wrong to refuse to begin at the beginning which is before existence began which is what she says when she accepts existence as an axiom instead of a question.
If you run across anyone who really believes and/or accepts the idea that bread and wine transform into the body and blood of Jesus get away from them because they do not speak the truth. I’ve been to countless Masses and never, ever saw bread and wine become flesh or blood. I never saw it and neither did anyone else because it just doesn’t happen.
