Donatella Versace designed the best gown Michelle ever wore, a rose gold Ateler Versace creation that Michelle wore to her last state dinner as the first lady. It’s the best we ever saw Michelle look. Michelle is a difficult subject for the world of high fashion because of her athletic figure.
Melania on the other hand is the same height but with a fashion model body. She looks good in off the rack designs but she looks beyond fantastic in designer clothes. She confirmed Ralph Lauren will design for her on Inaugueration day although there’s a rumor that Tommy Hilfiger wants to design her gowns. Most fashion designers would jump at the chance to “dress” the first lady but some designers are too caught up in the petty world of politics to do it. So be it.
Melania doesn’t need a fashion designer as compared to Michelle who has a much more difficult figure and therefore represents additional challenges to a designer.
Credit Michelle with being very conscious she was representing not only America to the world but she carried an additional burden and she carried it well. Michelle represented the black race because she was the first black first lady. Melania will be the second first lady born in a country that opposed America when she was born there. Melania unlike Michelle is an immigrant. Michelle was born in better circumstances than Melania plus Michelle was born in America. She is highly educated at Princeton University and a lawyer who graduated from Harvard Law School because of affirmative action. Melania had no such advantages but Melania had the great good fortune to meet Donald Trump while she was modeling in Manhattan. Both are fluent in French. Michelle studied it in school and Melania learned it on the fly along with English, Serbian and German. They say good luck is better to have than an education or loads of money and it’s true in the case of the wife of President Trump.
Melania offers a vivid contrast to Michelle. After eight years of Michelle we’ll be seeing Melania as a well-dressed First Lady. .
