Coulter wrote that he’s not a natural born American citizen but she didn’t read the part about being a citizen of the United States which allowed foreign birth to be disqualified as a restriction on natural born citizens. In other words, the Constitution wanted people to be President whether or not they were born here.

If the Constitution is read as trying to include as many people as possible then being foreign born is not a dis-qualifier so long as the person accepts America as their country and they want to be a citizen. That view harmonizes more with the inclusive nature of the new country than as a document meant to limit the people who could be President.

The Constitution says: “No Person except a natural born Citizen,
or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President.”

Coulter stands on some Supreme Court Opinions which Opinions are neither law nor the Constitution.

Cruz’s mother was an American citizen when he was born so he has been American since he was born even though his father was a Cuban citizen, same as Obama’s father wasn’t an American at all in any way, shape or form. Obama’s father and grandfather hated England and by extension America. Of course Cruz wasn’t born in Hawaii like Obama. Cruz was born in Canada but if he was born in the middle of the ocean his mother was still an American citizen at the time of his birth therefore he’s as American as Betsy Ross who sewed up the first American flag for General Washington.
If his mother renounced her American citizenship after Cruz was born he still would be born of an American citizen.

Even if it were proven that Eleanor Cruz had become a Canadian citizen, she might well have remained an American citizen. In other words, she could have remained a dual citizen. If that were the case, a reasonable interpretation of the constitutional requirement would still find Cruz eligible to serve as President.

Ted Cruz, who was a dual citizen, formally renounced his Canadian citizenship in 2014. He’s as American as Barack Hussein Obama. Coulter missed it.

UPDATE AFTER THE 1/14/2016 DEBATE
Much discussion about whether “Natural Born” requires a U.S. citizen be born on American soil. Of course it doesn’t. If a child of an American citizen is born in a foreign country they are an American citizen at birth and are considered a natural born citizen. Natural born is completely different than a naturalized citizen meaning someone who is a citizen of a different country who applies for and becomes a citizen of America professing allegiance to America.

Cruz is a natural born citizen of the United States. He doesn’t need a declaratory judgment as Trump says. If he is sued by the Democrats they will lose the lawsuit but his citizenship doesn’t depend on the results of a law suit, just as human rights exist whether or not there’s a declaratory judgment that says it.
