President Obama railed against “cold-hearted free-market capitalist types who are reading Ayn Rand and think everyone is mooching”, …. So let’s look at Capitalism which is neither warm nor cold blooded. Capitalism is a social system based on the recognition of individual rights, including property rights, in which all property is privately owned. to make it even simpler, your life is your property.
There’s a lot of confusion about Rights because Rights are intangible. They cannot be touched or seen. Rights do not exist in nature. To witness some of the confusion about Rights look at what Sarah Palin said about Rights: “The Constitution didn’t give us our rights. Our rights came from God, and they’re inalienable. The Constitution created a national government to protect our God-given, unalienable rights.” But God didn’t say anything about Rights. If he gave Rights to us, why didn’t he say so? Because he didn’t givem them to us.
Rush Limbaugh agrees: “You have individual rights, as granted by God, who created you, and our founding documents enshrine them: Life, liberty, pursuit of happiness. Those rights don’t come from other men or governments. . . . They come from our Creator.” No they don’t.
Newt Gingrich challenges anyone to identify another possible source of inalienable rights: “If you are not endowed by your Creator with certain inalienable rights where do they come from?” read on and find out.
Neither Palin, Limbaugh nor Gingrich are correct. Rights do not “come from God”. The bible doesn’t use the word “Rights” at all so it’s impossible to make the case that Rights come from God.
this is important stuff. The right to life is the source of all rights—and the right to property is their only implementation. How do we know that? First because it’s a moral principle that no one can take the life of another. The Right to your own life is inalienable and unalienable. It’s an intrinsic part of you. You exist and your life belongs to you.
