First, to The Tuskegee Airman, the famous Red Tails, the fighter and bomber pilots and crews who learned to fly and fight in World War II at Tuskegee Airfield. Their combat record shows they were among the best. The Army Airfield at Tuskegee is gone. It’s now privately owned and it’s six runways, three strips of macadam are now down to one strip called runway 14/32.

The government decided to honor the Tuskegee wartime pilots and crews by designating Moton field, Alabama to commemorate the Tuskegee Airmen. On 29 March 2007, the Tuskegee Airmen were collectively awarded a Congressional Gold Medal by President George Bush at a ceremony in the U.S. Capitol rotunda. The medal is currently on display at the Smithsonian Institution. A commemorative quarter will be struck in 2021 to further honor these brave people.

Tuskegee University is one of the top universities in the world. It’s known as an all-black university. That’s unfortunate because it thereby limits the education of the students who will live in America. Perhaps it seems to be the right way to educate black people but experience teaches otherwise. Perhaps it’s a way to keep black students focused on their identity based on the color of their skin. Their founder had a slightly different message but it too was rooted in keeping black students in the victim mode. He observed success is measured by the obstacles one overcomes, not by the position one achieves in life. Tuskegee insures black students will keep their victim mentality in mind regardless of the position they achieve. That’s a particularly wrong message, guaranteed to keep anyone following it away from true success.

America is a different place since the days it was legal to own slaves but the graduates of Tuskegee are finally attuned to convert actions by white people into obstacles for black people. Michelle Obama did just that in her recent rant to the graduates. She actually told them that her and her husband; get this; the President and the First Lady; “felt the sting of those daily slights throughout our entire lives.” That’s simply not true. She’s the First Lady of the United States of America and she’s pandering to the race demons in her head. That’s too bad for her.

The graduates of Tuskegee hopefully know better. They are entering a world much changed since it was legal to won slaves. American’s elected a black man to be their President. Barack is the 44th man to be elected President. The list doesn’t include his race because it’s not as important as the First Lady thinks.
