In World War II, Before Germany surrendered and in response to the German bombing of civilian centers beginning with the horribly inhumane bombing of: Guernica; London; Holland and other civilian centers, Great Britain and America bombed many parts of Germany. Fire was a major problem. Firefighters had to rely on additional sources for water and at one point 350,000 Coca-Cola bottles were used by civilians to store water to drink, for sanitary purposes and to douse the fires from the bombs, according to “The Bombers and the Bombed” by Richard Overy
