In the satisfying afterglow of the recent Northampton Republican Primary election for Supervisor there are some lessons to be learned. Why 927 people voted for me will have to remain a mystery because there’s no reliable information about what motivated those voters but this is certain and clear about why those 927 voters who voted for me and the 381 who voted for Jay Russell: – not one wanted Deon to win. . Opponent Vince Deon who has the entire official Republican apparatus to rely on minus some who will not support him received 20% fewer voes than his opponents.
My campaign was self-directed. That means it was me against the organized Republican leadership. The Republicans are led by George Komolasky, Deon, Eileen Silver & Steve McGill and what I call some running dogs who cater to their pleasure. They have about 25 “insiders” who work the township to get votes. They have the ability to promise jobs and contracts to supporters. They get contributions from vendors and contractors. They get free recognition from the Courier Times, a newspaper that caters to incumbents. Someone stole 300 on my political signs before the election. (See the official COMPLAINT that I filed with the Board of Elections, another group of incumbent sycophants at the Courthouse.) My judgment of the depth of the corruption has only increased as a result of my recent campaign.
There was pathetic Jay Russell, a poor excuse for a candidate, who can get himself on the ballot but usually doesn’t campaign too hard. He didn’t campaign for Supervisor except to hand paint sone wooden signs. He has very little leadership ability and less to offer if by some incomprehensible set of mistakes he was elected. One of the satisfactions was seeing Jay get 874 votes for Commissioner and only 381 for Supervisor. Why did he lose almost 500 votes? Regardless, he helped Deon.
(Added 10/22) “Pathetic” means evoking sympathy, causing sadness or sorrow. It means we feel sympathetic when we witness someone who has capability but doesn’t use it or who misuses it, or who fails to use it well. In the case of Jay he was friendly with Don Ernsberger who had control of an e-mail list of an early Tea Party group and they removed my name from their mail lost many times. When I met Ernsberger he said that was a mistake. He apologized. Jay didn’t. It’s hard for some people toact against who they are. Jay made other political miscalculations on purpose against me. He told me he got on the ballot for Supervisor because it would help me dispite being told the opposite by many knowledgable local political leaders. Jay told me before the election that him being on the ballot would make it easier for me to win. Wrong, Jay. On election day after the polls closed Jay was told he was not welcome to enter the Democratic post election gathering because of what he did. Now Jay is supposedly helping Deon. He said he’s angry at this posting and that’s why he’s helping Deon. Wait until he finds out the “bad” Republicans are spying on him and trying to use him (and me) to get the votes of the people who voted for him and that he’s rejoined the Republicans because the Democrats told him he wasn’t welcome.
Jay’s conduct around the township, indeed around PA and other states has left a lot of people with a bad taste in their mouth. Jay did his best to keep me and several other people out of several organizations. When the dust settled people realized we belonged there and some apologized for listening to the wrong things. Jay is annoyed because his petition signatures for Congress were challenged. I helped in that challenge and after I told Jay it would have been better to leace him on the ballot. In the spirit of forgiveness I apologized to Jay. Jay had followed my advice to advise the court that he withdrew from the race. He actually accepted my advice and now resents me for giving it to him. It was good advice. The reasons are a bit too detailed for this letter but Jay was happy to act on my advice and now that’s it’s over he resents me for giving it to him. recently he called me for advice regarding an independent candidate’s nomination papers. I gave him more good advice. So far as I know he took it and advised the candidate to withdraw. Proving that very often a good deed gets punished, he’s re-joining the Republicans, as I understand it, out of spite. He’s refused to return my telephone calls. Oh well. It’s difficult to act against one’s nature.
There are Republican Insiders who want to do the right thing. They helped me get 927 votes. There are however, too many who are part of the scheme of corruption that gets incumbents re-elected. If you want an example of the corruption, look at recent supervisor meetings where there were shakedowns going on by the majority supervisors and during which they shut off the microphones of the two Democrat supervisors.
Then there are the Republican secret meetings where Republicans are told to keep out unless invited. So I’m glad I ran, and I’m pleased with the results. Thank you to all the people who helped made this election memorable and satisfying.
Deon’s true nature is on exhibit in Wayne Mills Open Letter to the Northampton Republican Committee, copies of which have been distributed to many people including the newspapers.
