170 Million is a lot of people. Why were they killed? How did it happen? Wars have causes. The Holocaust had a cause, hatred of Jews,. WWI had many things that caused 43 nations to resort to war. WWII involved 35 nations. Walter Williams attributes the wars and the killings to powerful governments but he cautions that the same forces that caused Germany to embrace Hitler are afoot in America.

“Power kills; absolute Power kills absolutely. … The more power a government has, the more it can act arbitrarily according to the whims and desires of the elite, and the more it will make war on others and murder its foreign and domestic subjects.” War happens after something is in the name of correcting some massive wrong. Hitler gained power by using: the elite’s to dupe and forcibly impose their will on the masses. The masses are always duped by well-intentioned phrases. After all, what German could have been against “A Law to Remedy the Distress of People and Reich”? It’s not just Germans who have fallen prey to well-intentioned phrases. After all, who can be against the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act”? Surprised that something as helpful sounding as the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” along with spying on individuals and organizations by the NSA, the IRS, the ATF and police could lead to war? Consider this. No one believed  “A Law to Remedy the Distress of People and Reich” would lead to war either.
