The build-up of Russian Military on the Ukraine border is a distraction meant to take Obama’s eyes off Crimea and it’s working. Putin is a master of tactics especially distraction. Obama should have studied more about the KGB instead of chatting up his neighbors in Chicago. Even in basketball the fake, the tactic of deception is good to score points and win ballgames. How come Putin who doesn’t even play basketball knows how to do a fake? Why did Obama fall for the fake? The diversion created by Putin his buildup of the military served Putin well and made the West think twice about opposing Putin’s grab of Ukraine. The military build-up takes the pressure off of Putin to get out of Crimea. The longer the world fiddles the more solid Putin will make the takeover of Crimea.
What about the United Nations? Where are they these days? Why didn’t they do anything about Putin’s illegal grab of Ukraine’s Crimea? Boy, talk about not walking the walk. How insignificant is the U.N. when they can’t even stop Russia from taking over Crimea. It’s not like Putin can’t do without Crimea. He has plenty of access to the Black Sea. Russia has hundreds of miles of territory along the seacoast of the Black Sea. The port does not freeze; marine navigation is possible year round. Through it are provided passenger service from Poti and Batumi in Georgia, and cargo service to the Turkish ports of Trabzon and Istanbul.
In 2013 the port was modernized as part of the renovations in the city for the 2014 Winter Olympics. New berths were constructed. Sochi seaport is now able to admit cruise ships up to 300 meters long almost all year round. Before reconstruction the seaport of Sochi could admit only cruise ships up to 200 meters long. After the reconstruction the port was able to admit simultaneously two cruise ships and a ferry. In addition, hydrotechnical facilities were capitally repaired and the front side promenade was tidied up.
