From Wikipedia:Money laundering is the practice of disguising the origins of illegally-obtained money. It’s the process by which the proceeds of crime are made to appear legitimate. Money laundering is the practice of disguising the origins of illegally-obtained money. Ultimately, it is the process by which the proceeds of crime are made to appear legitimate.
Money laundering often occurs in three steps: first, cash is introduced into the financial system by some means (“placement”), the second involves carrying out complex financial transactions in order to camouflage the illegal source (“layering”), and the final step entails acquiring wealth generated from the transactions of the illicit funds (“integration”). Some of these steps may be omitted, depending on the circumstances; for example, non-cash proceeds that are already in the financial system would have no need for placement.
Politics is cleaning up money stolen in plain sight. It steals money by calling it taxes, fees, permit costs Not all taxes are stolen. Government is a legitimate enterprise but the politicians work out of sight and get government to steal money for them.
Here’s are some additional thoughts on Politics as a laundering enterprise. For Example: Deep politicians are those in the business of controlling the government to divert money to their own purposes. The current Register of Wills scam is a textbook of using tax money to pay for political work. Most politicians are a different type of person. they work to get money in unconventional ways. Want to sell your property? Most people call a realtor. Politicians talk to the party boss.
Need a job: Politicians call their local political person. They get to work at the Courthouse in exchange for their vote and of course the votes of their family. See the money laundering?
No? How about if you get a job for a company that doesn’t need to sell something to get money to pay your salary? That’s a government job. Your salary comes from money that people are coerced into paying. Get a little tax money from a lot of people and you control millions of dollars. You get to pass around money without producing anything. The tax money is laundered into salaries that go back into the community. Wait. Taking money then spending it is not the same as giving it back. Spending is not giving back. Using tax money to pay workers for political work is what the Grand Jury found was going on at the Register of Wills office in Doylestown, to the eternal disgrace of the politicians who made that happen and who traded in dollars that weren’t theirs. That’s money laundering so despicable that a self-respecting mobster wouldn’t do it.
At the township level it means trading political favors and charging the people for it. In Northampton some of the people in College Park wanted to reduce their sewer bills so they hired a lawyer who foisted 75% of the bill onto the citizens. The lawyer was rewarded with a plum political job and the citizens paid the bill. Government Money Laundering is so huge that it’s accepted and even taken for granted as part of the cost of an orderly society. That makes it more wrong than simple felony theft.
It means getting a mortgage without going thru a bank. Northampton provided a mortgage for the Spread Eagle Inn after coercing some businesses to “donate” the building and the work in the name of history. Money Laundering so deceptive it would make the Godfather blush.
