There is a moral obligation to stop aggressors against America — whether they wage welfare, bring in hitherto eradicated diseases, or harbor hatred for Americans that spills over into hate crimes (terrorism and racially motivated crime). What is the justification for President Trump ordering and carrying out the attack on Syria?

Given that Russia, as Assad’s patron, is complicit in his crimes, it’s hard to make a moral case that America needs Russia’s approval in the America-hating UN before any action is taken to punish Assad.

The missile strikes also sent the message ro Russia that Russia cannot fully dictate the terms of the Syrian conflict—its claims throughout the week that it would shoot down any U.S. missiles appear to have been bluster, and its new threats of reprisals are likely much of the same. The risks of direct conflict shouldn’t be downplayed, but the U.S. and its allies have at least shown it is possible to take on Assad without provoking a shooting war between two nuclear-armed superpowers.
